yep, currently I am querying a db to fetch song links from db and then playing them directly from react app

To me it sounds like creating a separate backend that will be responsible for serving those mp3 files sounds good enough. You probably don't even need to use Membrane or Jellyfish here. Instead just off load audio files serving to another server 🤔

If you keep whole mp3s in the DB, maybe it's better to keep them as static files and only keep names in the DB. If you have lot's of users around the world, plugging a CDN in between may be a good idea. But in general, when you do VOD/AOD, streaming over HTTP is fine 😉

of course, in a db table it's just its url to song recorded. but songs are in a storage/bucket. in this case, yes it is already good to go. but let's say I'll have a bunch of stations streaming and people drop in to listen to what its playing. then a media server, streaming to multiple clients at the same time is way better right?

we'd like to establish media servers to cafe/bars where they can stream to their subscribers or members as artists drop songs to their libraries and give consent

So once you have an mp3 file you convert it into HLS playlist and stream via HTTP

We are working on this in Jellyfish and it should be shipped with 0.3
